I feel that the judgement made here was fair, or even a bit high. Ocarina was pretty much walking you through a storyline with little to no variations between plays. the only exploration you will ever do in it is in the dungeons, and looking for those damned gold sculltulas. Majora’s mask improved upon it by giving you the ability to explore the world and become immersed into it, just like the first game, just like lttp. honestly, I’m suprised that zelda 2 wasn’t higher on the list myself, or at least higher than OOT because it still remained true to the exploration and zelda formula. yeah it was different, but it was still a true zelda game. OOT pretty much ruined the series with it’s combat and story driven gameplay, and it took years for them to fix it. the thing that saves link between worlds is the fact that you could do any dungeon you wanted to do in any order you chose (except the sand temple, but that was because of stuff happening). The main thing is, people keep putting that overhyped game at the top of their “best zelda games” list because of the nostalgoggles. it’s not the best zelda. nowhere close. is it a fun game? absolutely. is it one of the best zelda? not by a long shot. that’s why it’s ranked the way it is.

I wouldve been fine with it being #2 because A Link to the Past is also a top 5 game of all time
