Doom
It was surprising to see Bethesda bring over the high-octane, blood pumping first-person shooter that is Doom over to the Nintendo Switch, but lo and behold, the shooter runs surprisingly well with a solid frame rate that leaves little room for error.
The Switch port takes a bit of the graphical hit, but killing demons on the go with your vast array of weaponry feels as good as ever. Doom’s fluid and fast-paced combat will have your blood pumping as you eliminate hundreds if not thousands of demons roaming the post-apocalyptic landscape.
You will be wondering how iD Software managed to get this game running on the Switch once you see all of the blood and action going on on the Switch all at once. If you’re looking for a tight and challenging first-person shooter on Nintendo’s hybrid console, then look no further.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Another one of Bethesda’s best shooters ever, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, has also made its way to the Nintendo Switch. If you’ve yet to play this narrative-focused military shooter, then what are you doing with your life?
Playing as BJ Blazkowicz, your mission is to take down tons and tons of Nazi’s using powerful weapons and even more powerful special abilities that are at your disposal. Similar to Doom, Wolfenstein II’s combat is very fast-paced, leaving you little room to breathe between enemy encounters.
Not only does the shooting feel satisfying, but the narrative is also quite engaging with a cast of characters that truly shine in this war-driven first-person shooter. The cutscenes are top-notch with voice work that’s surprisingly well-done for a game such as this.
Paladins: Champions of the Realm
If you’re looking for a hero shooter experience on the Switch that’s on par with Overwatch, then Paladins: Champions of the Realm is the multiplayer title for you.
Sporting cross-play online multiplayer, voice chat, and a solid 60 frames per second, Paladins is a wonderful choice if you wanna team up with some friends and dominate the competition. And plus, Paladins is free to play on Switch, so if you don’t love it after downloading it from the eShop, you won’t be losing any of your hard-earned cash.
There’s a fun progression system to be found here and a variety of interesting characters to choose from; just note that there are some technical issues with the game on Switch, but since it’s free to play can you really complain?
Immortal Redneck
Taking place in ancient Egypt, Immortal Redneck is a twitchy and arcade-like first-person shooter that throws the player into randomly generated pyramids where you have to fight your way through hordes of enemies.
Immortal Redneck is a rogue-lite so you can expect to die over and over again, but thanks to an awesome progression system and a skill tree, you always feel as if you’re making progress even when you fall to the Egyptian creatures.
There’s tons of customization options and over 50 weapons to find which will make each run feel different from the last.
Payday 2
Payday 2 on Switch might be missing some features that are present in the other versions such as voice chat, but it doesn’t stop this cooperative heist shooter from still being a fun time to be had with your buddies.
At first, you’ll start off by completing small-time crimes like robbing convenience stories and kidnappings, but once you progress into deeper territory, you and three friends will eventually start pulling off huge bank heists that require the utmost communication and strategy.
In Payday 2, there are tons of ways for you and your friends to make a quick buck, but it all comes down to how well you all work together.
