Genshin Impact: How to Change Element

genshin impact, change element

Genshin Impact’s combat system revolves around combining different elemental attacks for greater damage and effects. The game’s main protagonist, the Adventurer, starts as a Wind elemental-type (Anemo), but they don’t have to remain one throughout the entire game. Here’s how to change element in Genshin Impact.

How to Change Element in Genshin Impact

First, let’s confirm that, yes, it is only the Adventurer who can change element types, and they only have two to choose from: Anemo or Geo. All other characters in the game are locked in to a set elemental type and you won’t be able to change it.

As for how you change it, it’s simple. Genshin Impact’s open-world, Tevyat, is split into two different halves, and each is represented by a different God. The starting region to the north is Anemo, while the southern region of Liyue is Geo.

To change your element you’ll need to head south and unlock a Statue of the Seven — any one will do. When you unlock the statue you’ll see an option to “Resonate with Geo,” as pictured above. This is your option to change from Anemo to Geo.

Obviously, if you later decide you’d like to revert back to Anemo then simply head back to the Anemo region of the map and Resonate with a Statue of the Seven.

Anemo vs. Geo: Which Element is Better? Answered

In terms of which element is better between Anemo and Geo, there’s more or less no right answer.

Obviously, your Adventurer will have different Talents depending on which one you go for, and you might find that you have a preference with which you prefer using in combat. Anemo has great knock-back thanks to the charged attack and wind vortex ult, while Geo has some interesting AoE moves when upgrades via the Constellation tree.

Ultimately, it comes down to using the right element in combination with the other members of your party. Finding the right team composition in Genshin Impact is everything, so if you have other characters that combo well with, say, Geo, then maybe look at that. Particularly so, if you already have, say, Venti or some other Anemo character already in your team.
