While you’d think that a huge great white shark wouldn’t be hard at all to find out in the open water, Klaus is a bit of a special case. You’ll need a specific quest to unlock him, and then head to the target location and wait for certain weather conditions.

First off, you’ll need to talk to an old lady and fellow diver named Clara out on a raft to begin the Revenge Time story quest. As the name suggests, she seeks revenge against the one and only Klaus, a great white shark who killed her husband years ago by creating a vortex that pulled him beneath the waves. She notes that he only emerges on stormy nights, and asks Dave to help find him before the storm lifts.

Once you have everything you need equipped, and both the time and weather are set, head to the far right side of the map in order to find the infamous vortex where Klaus is lurking. The vortex is typically found between 20 to 50 meters down, the exact location can be random and it can sometimes take a few tries. We’d suggest checking the upper right corner of the first zone explored after starting your dive.

Once you do manage to find it, Klaus will be there ready for a fight.

While the Giant Squid may have been a fearsome foe, Klaus is pretty much in his own…league (aha). For this big guy you’ll want to have a very good ranged weapon, an extra oxygen tank, and Charms such as one that gives you an additional dodge.

Klaus has a handful of different attacks that require some adept maneuvering to avoid, and because of his size you’ll want to keep your distance as much as possible throughout the fight. His most common attack will have him attempt to bite Dave. It can have a far reach, so again, distance is key so you don’t get chomped.

Thankfully, most of his attacks are still predictable as he performs them by charging in a straight line, allowing you to side-dodge when necessary, and take advantage of that trajectory to deal damage with your weapon.

Further into the fight he’ll begin generate whirlpools with his tail that move horizontally around the area. To avoid them, simply swim upward or downward. If you find yourself running low on air or ammo at any point, be sure to check down on the ocean floor for supplies lying around.

After you do enough damage, a cutscene will trigger where Klaus attempts to charge at Dave, teeth bared. However, Clara suddenly appears and literally sucker punches him dead, which probably makes for one of the coolest moments in the entire game.

After the fight is over and Clara departs, be sure to grab your reward from Klaus’ corpse — shark meat.

That concludes our guide for how to find and defeat Klaus the great white shark in Dave the Diver. We hope you find this helpful in your pursuit of the great beast, and let us know what you like most about the game so far.
